Terms of use

Version 1.0 · last updated:

1. Who we are and acceptance

ChessCoo is provided by CF3 SRL (“we”, “us”). By opening or using ChessCoo you agree to these terms and to our privacy policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the app.

2. The service

ChessCoo is a web app that follows a chess game played on a physical board through a camera and shows it on screen. It is currently free to use and needs no account. It is offered as a work in progress: features may change, be limited, or be suspended or withdrawn at any time, and we may in future introduce paid features or plans, which will be announced in advance.

3. Your licence to use ChessCoo

We grant you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable licence to use ChessCoo in your browser for your own, non-commercial purposes. All rights not expressly granted are reserved. ChessCoo is not sold to you and no ownership of it passes to you.

4. What you may not do

Unless we have given you written permission, and except to the extent the law does not allow us to restrict it, you may not:

Using ChessCoo to follow your own games, including in clubs, schools or non-commercial events, is allowed. Tournaments, streaming or other uses where income is generated need our prior written permission.

5. Ownership and third-party components

ChessCoo, including its code, recognition networks, 3D models, characters (pigeon, robot, owl, fox) and logo, is protected by copyright and other rights and belongs to us or our licensors. © 2026 ChessCoo. All rights reserved. ChessCoo uses third-party components and services under their own licences, listed in Settings → Sources; those licences, not these terms, govern those components. “Lichess” and “QR Code” are names or trademarks of their respective owners; ChessCoo is not affiliated with Lichess.

6. Your data and optional contributions

Your games and settings stay in your browser. How we handle the data we may receive is explained in the privacy policy. Help improve recognition is marked coming soon and disabled: no training crops or game records are collected or uploaded by this release. If you export games, they remain yours; you must not use ChessCoo to infringe anyone else’s rights.

7. Third-party services

Features that connect to other services (for example Lichess, speech voices provided by your browser or system, or a public STUN server for the phone camera) depend on those services and their terms. We are not responsible for them.

8. No guarantee

ChessCoo relies on image recognition, which can be wrong: moves can be missed or misread, and the recorded game may differ from the real one. Check the position and result yourself, especially in rated, official or tournament games.

Automatic candidate acceptance and delayed automatic confirmation are disabled by default. If you enable either, ChessCoo may record and send an incorrect move during a Lichess game without asking for confirmation. ChessCoo accepts no responsibility for online games lost because the system detected a move incorrectly.

9. Limitation of liability

To the extent permitted by law, we are not liable for indirect or consequential losses, lost profits, lost data, or for results of games or decisions you take using ChessCoo. Nothing in these terms excludes or limits liability that cannot be excluded or limited by law, including liability for wilful misconduct, gross negligence, death or personal injury, or your mandatory consumer rights.

10. Ending your use

You can stop using ChessCoo at any time. We may suspend or end your access if you break these terms or to protect the service. Sections that by their nature should continue (ownership, restrictions, liability) survive.

11. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms, for example when we add features or paid plans. We will say so in the app and update the date above; continuing to use ChessCoo after a change means you accept it, except where the law requires your express consent.

12. Governing law

These terms are governed by Italian law. If you are a consumer, you keep the protection of the mandatory rules of the country where you live, and any claim may be brought before the courts that have jurisdiction under those rules.
